Putnam County crash leaves 75-year-old man dead

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 75-year-old man from Palatka died Saturday evening after a crash involving two pickup trucks took place in Putnam County.

According to FHP, the man was at the intersection of Carraway Street and U.S. Highway 17 preparing to leave the Dollar General parking lot. As he turned south onto the roadway, the man “violated the right of way” of an oncoming pickup truck, which led to the crash.

The Palatka man’s truck was “redirected and overturned” before coming to a rest. FHP added that he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries before medical staff said he had died.

The two passengers of the other vehicle were taken to a hospital with minor injuries while the driver didn’t sustain any, FHP said.
