A Jacksonville man accused of shooting his father inside a Walgreens on Dunn Avenue last Monday is facing a charge of attempted murder, a newly obtained arrest report state.
Willie Williams III, 34, is facing a charge of attempted murder in the second degree.
A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office incident report said officers were called to the Walgreens on March 4 around 4 p.m. regarding “possible shots fired and people running everywhere.”
When officers arrived, a Walgreens employee told them two people were fighting in the store and more employees were hiding in the back.
The officers entered the store with their guns drawn and immediately saw blood drops on the floor, the report states.
Officers could hear a man on the phone and found him, Willie Williams Jr., 60, halfway down an aisle leaning against the shelf with blood on his pants, according to the report. Then, officers cleared the store and had the remaining employees exit toward other officers waiting in the parking lot.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was called to take Williams Jr. to the hospital.
While JFRD was tending to him, Williams Jr. told officers he went to Walgreens to pick up his medication.
After he parked and exited the vehicle, he heard screeching tires and saw his son, Willie Williams III. Williams Jr. walked into the Walgreens and believed he was shot twice, according to the report.
The report states William Jr. was suffering from a gunshot wound on his buttocks and injuries from a metal bat. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the report, Williams Jr. told officers he and his son were arguing over money his son owed him, but he has since “let it go.” He added his son is still angry with him because he [Williams Jr.] refuses to speak to him.
Williams Jr. told officers he had not spoken to his son in a year and didn’t know what prompted the incident.
Williams III took himself to Baptist North to receive treatment for his injuries from the incident, the report states. His next court date is March 28, 2024, at 9 a.m. at the Duval County Courthouse.
