Riviera Beach man accused of shattering woman's eye socket in violent attack

A Riviera Beach man is accused of felony battery after brutally breaking a woman’s eye socket over “grill parts.”

On February 14, a Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD) officer responded to a call that a 64-year-old woman wanted to report an assault.

The victim told the officer that three days earlier, her roommate’s boyfriend, 59-year-old JW, kicked down her door and violently assaulted her, shattering her eye sockets. The victim told police that the attack was carried out after W accused her of stealing parts of their grill.

RBPD says evidence corroborated the details of W’s account, taking photos of damages to the hinges, strike plate, and shoe prints on the victim’s door.

According to the criminal probable cause affidavit, when the victim grabbed a metal pan from the kitchen, her roommate, who is also W’s girlfriend, took it from her. When she managed to grab her phone to dial 911, W snatched it from her.

She informed officers that W uttered “Oh, you wanna be my woman, b****. I’m finna show you how to be my woman.”

The victim managed to escape, W running out of the residence and across the street. However, W caught up with her, got out of his car, threw her to the ground, and continued punching her 20 more times.

W was admitted to the St. Mary’s Medical Center where doctors say she received a fracture to her left eye’s orbital floor and orbital wall.

A third roommate told police she witnessed W pin down the victim, slap her phone from her hand, and she saw the victim’s eye swollen and bleeding when she returned to the residence.

A patrol vehicle located W. on March 1, pulling him over and talking him into custody near 300 W 20th Street.

W was subsequently booked on counts of felony battery resulting from bodily harm, burglary with battery, and preventing 911 communication.
