Sarasota mother of children killed in hit-and-run dies months after crash

A Sarasota family was dealt another devastating blow after a mother whose children were killed in a hit-and-run also died.

T B was walking with her four children and their father, D G, across North Washington Boulevard on Feb. 10 when she and two of her children were hit by a car.

The two children, 5-month-old K G and 2-year-old R, were killed at the scene, but B was left hospitalized in a coma for her to recover.

“They were such, especially R, he was a trip,” said C M, the boys’ great-grandmother, in an interview with 8 On Your Side. “They just moved from my house, probably about six months ago. They lived with me, but I never met Kiylan, but I did talk to them on FaceTime and get him to laugh and stuff like that.”

On Friday, April 11, T died after remaining in hospice.

J F, the 72-year-old defendant in the hit-and-run, said she thought she hit a dog when the crash happened — not a family, according to her defense attorney D B.

“She loves dogs, and when she circled back around to go see if it was a dog and she saw people standing around a dark place which she thought there may be a dog there… she loves animals, she did not want to see the dog suffering, so she went home,” B said.

However, B’s family have not accepted this reason, saying they couldn’t even understand why someone would leave a dog they hit with a car.

“How dare you take my grandkids away from me and everybody in our family,” M said.

F was originally charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a traffic crash resulting in a fatality and one count of leaving the scene of a traffic crash resulting in serious injury. We have reached out to the State Attorney’s Office to see if they will be upgrading the charges after B’s death.
