SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Sarasota Police have arrested three juveniles and one adult and charged them in the brutal beating of a 67-year-old man.
On Oct. 13 around 2 a.m., officers were called out to South Orange Avenue for reports of a battery.
A 67-year-old man told police he had been beaten by four young men, who allegedly punched him and hit him with a tree branch. The suspects also reportedly threw a rock at the victim, causing a visible wound.
The victim described the suspects as four young white males who fled the scene in a white four-door car or gray SUV.
Police were able to find the car and spoke with three juveniles and 18-year-old Adrian Zambrana. At the time of the stop, there was insufficient evidence to make an arrest.
Detectives from the Sarasota Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division took over the case. Through an extensive investigation, including video evidence and additional interviews with the victim, detectives confirmed details of the incident. Surveillance footage from Oct. 13, showed four individuals, one appearing to carry a large tree branch, approaching the location on South Orange Avenue and subsequently attacking the victim. The individuals in the surveillance footage were identified as the same four individuals from the early morning traffic stop.
