A man whose job it was to keep special needs students safe on the school bus was arrested Thursday after allegedly abusing one of the children.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) learned of the incident last Friday when they were called to Northport K-8 School on a report of child abuse.
Its investigators reviewed the video recorded during the ride. Their account explained that the incident began when a nine-year-old special needs student switched seats to talk to another student.
That’s when school bus aide, AP, allegedly got up, marched over to the girl, and picked her up before shoving her into a corner. The Port St. Lucie man proceeded to shake the cornered young girl violently before releasing her and heading back to the front of the bus, the PSLPD report stated.
The incident was recorded by another child and the bus’s surveillance camera.
Investigators spent the next few days talking to witnesses before concluding their investigation and arresting P on a count of cruelty toward a child. He was arrested without incident and has since been released on bond.
