A school bus carrying a student and a school board employee crashed Thursday morning after officials said the driver struck hurricane debris in the roadway.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the school bus was traveling northbound on Aquila Street around 8:33 a.m. when the driver went to make a left turn on Adriatic Street.
Deputies said that’s when the driver struck a stop sign that was leaning over the roadway, which had been damaged during Hurricane Milton.
When the bus hit the sign during the turn, six windows were damaged.
The driver and the two passengers were not hurt. The parent of the student was notified by authorities.
The crash remains an ongoing investigation.
