Semi truck fire closes part of I‑10 in Jackson County

This morning, a semi-truck fire has shut down a portion of I-10.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Friday, around 12 a.m. the semi-truck trailer caught fire while traveling over the Troy Peacock Bridge near mile marker 160 on I-10.

FHP says the driver was able to disconnect the truck from the trailer and get out safely.

The trailer was hauling over 5,000 gallons of motor oil at the time, and as the oil leaked, it coated the top and underside of the bridge in flames.

White’s Wrecker Service is on scene, cleaning up the area.

The Department of Transportation is waiting for the cleanup operation to finish so they can properly inspect the bridge.

DEP has been notified.

The eastbound side of I-10 remains closed off at this time.
