A Pasco County Fire Rescue crew was rattled after a speeding driver hit their firetruck as they were responding to a deadly fiery crash.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Little Road, not far from Embassy Boulevard and Hilltop Drive in New Port Richey, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

A 53-year-old Spring Hill man was speeding northbound in a Honda pickup truck on Little Road at the same time the firetruck was traveling southbound on the road with its emergency lights activated. The fire crew inside was responding to an earlier crash.

As the firetruck turned left onto a private drive, the pickup truck driver didn’t slow down or stop and slammed into the right side of the firetruck.

The pickup truck driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the firetruck was injured but was not taken to the hospital, troopers said.

The fire rescue crew was in the area to reportedly assist with a crash that had happened about a half hour earlier. A 27-year-old Port Richey man was speeding southbound on Little Road in his Dodge Ram pickup truck.

At the same time, the driver of a Toyota 4Runner was going northbound on Little Road.

Troopers say at the intersection of Little Road and San Miguel Drive, the 4Runner driver turned left into the path of the pickup truck driver.

The collision caused the 4Runner to overturn and catch fire.

The pickup truck driver, along with his passenger, were seriously injured in the crash and were rushed to an area hospital.

The 4Runner driver and their passenger died at the crash site. Their identities are still unknown, according to FHP.
