Spring Hill man kills brother, shoots self to avoid life in prison: deputies

A Spring Hill man killed his brother before taking his own life on Black Friday, Hernando County deputies said.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, its emergency communications center got a 911 call at about 11:25 a.m. from A. C, 39.

C told dispatch that he just shot his brother and would be waiting outside his home for deputies before ending the call.

The sheriff’s office said when deputies arrived, they spoke with the suspect’s mother who told them her sons A and R C were in a “heated” argument over A using his brother’s car.

According to investigators, the argument escalated when A C got a gun and shot the victim.

The suspect’s mother told authorities after A C called 911, he said “he didn’t want to spend the rest of his life in jail and proceeded to shoot himself,” the sheriff’s office said.

Both men died of their injuries. Detectives have classified the incident as a murder-suicide.
