Suncoast crash kills Arizona man, injures 3 residents

An Arizona man is dead today, and three Suncoast residents are recovering from their wounds.

It all started just after 9 p.m. on March 15, where US-41 meets Florida Blvd in Manatee County.

A 50-year-old man on his motorcycle was in the proper lane with a passenger behind him, sharing his seat. According to Florida Highway Patrol, they were simply traveling along when disaster struck.

The motorcycle reached an intersection, where an 81-year-old driver behind the wheel of a sedan turned into oncoming traffic, striking the motorcycle as the driver came through the green light. By the time that first responders arrived, the driver of the motorcycle was dead, and everyone else had been injured.

The 81-year-old suffered the least severe injuries. Her 86-year-old passenger was also seriously wounded, while the 56-year-old woman sharing a seat with the now-deceased motorcycle driver is recovering in the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
