A South Florida woman was arrested on allegations that she harmed her own child by biting him.
According to police, 48-year-old Hatice Topcan was arrested on a felony child abuse charge.
The incident happened Monday along the 200 block of 172nd Street in Sunny Isles Beach.
According to Topcan’s arrest form, she bit her 7-year-old son “with excessive force,” enough to leave “visible and pronounced bruising” on the child’s arm.
Police did not say what circumstances led up to the biting incident, or who alerted them to the victim’s injuries.
Topcan, a Turkish national, was taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County without incident, police said.
Jail records show she was being held on a $2,500 bond.
