Suspect accused of DUI after serious crash shuts down Fort Pierce intersection

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — One driver was seriously injured and another jailed after a suspected DUI crash in Fort Pierce late Saturday.

Just before midnight Saturday, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) deputies say they responded to a two-vehicle crash at Kings Highway and St. Lucie Boulevard.

According to SLCSO, the collision resulted in serious injuries for one driver and serious charges for the other. As a result of the investigation, the intersection was closed in all directions Friday night.

One driver, 37-year-old Cruse John Richard, was found to be impaired at the time of the collision according to deputies.

Richard was medically cleared before being transported to jail and booked for:

  • DUI with serious bodily injury
  • Resisting an officer without violence
  • Battery
  • Simple assault
  • Battery on an officer, firefighter, or EMT

“Driving under the influence is not only reckless—it’s dangerous and unacceptable,” said Sheriff Richard Del Toro in a release posted to the SLCSO Facebook page.

SLCSO notes that Richard will be held without bond at the St. Lucie County Jail. The investigation remains active at this time.
