A Jacksonville man already in custody for unlawful sexual activity with a minor, now faces one count of second-degree murder in the death of a child in a separate case, the sheriff’s office said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) said on February 18, officers were notified of an unresponsive child at Allison Street, off Lowell Avenue. Fire Rescue rushed the child to a nearby hospital, but the girl was pronounced dead by medical staff.
The medical examiner’s office determined that the child’s cause of death was from multiple blunt-force traumas and diphenhydramine toxicity. Diphenhydramine can be found in common over-the-counter allergy medicines. According to a medical case report, acute intoxication with diphenhydramine can have severe, potentially fatal consequences if not managed appropriately.
Following an investigation by the JSO Homicide Team and Crime Scene detectives, the sheriff’s office said 60-year-old Tyrone Tillman Golson was identified as the suspect.
Golson was already behind bars for an unrelated arrest, JSO said. According to court records, Golson was arrested on three counts of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors, possession of photographs/sexual performance by child, soliciting a child via computer, and unlawful use of a two-way communications device on February 23.
On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said the State Attorney’s Office charged Golson with second-degree murder in adangerous act evincing a depraved mind without premeditation.
Court records indicate Golson’s next court appearance is set for Friday morning at the Duval County Courthouse.
