A possible gang member, previously accused of attempted murder and linked to another shooting, has been accused of duplicating a check from a business and using personal information to steal over $11,000.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) stated that on May 9, gang detectives and tactical agents were conducting surveillance on Sorel Rinvil for an unrelated case and found him in possession of a gun.
Officers noted that they had seized his phone and uncovered that Sorel Rinvel and his accomplice Woosman Pastuer, 21, from Orlando, had obtained a check from Mikro Corporation written out to the victim in the amount of $11,230.29.
Just under one month ago, CBS12 News reported that PBSO had found a gun that was involved in aMarch 6 and a February 27 shooting, which belonged to Sorel Rinvil, 22.Furthermore, we also reported in 2022 that Rinvil was accused of a shooting on July 20, 2019.
Detectives determined through Rinvil’s phone records that he and Woosman, also known as “Woozo,” duplicated this check and attempted to cash it out at banks multiple times using the victim’s personal information. They would then withdraw the money before banks realized the check was fraudulent.
“How much you want of that slip (check)?” Rinvil texted Woosman on January 22. Woosman responds by asking for $4,000 of the check via Apple Pay, the probable cause affidavit noted.
The report continued to state that on February 1, Rinvil texts Woozman, “You wanna cook it (make a fraudulent check)?” to which Woosman responds, claiming he will do it.
According to PBSO, the pair also sent screenshots of receipts for the fraudulent deposits to each other.
Rinvil and Woozman have been accused of organized fraud, conspiracy to commit fraudulent use of personal I.D. information, and fraudulent use of personal I.D. information.
