Suspect in stolen vehicle crashes into 2 cars during Polk County chase, Florida Highway Patrol says

A suspect who fled in a stolen vehicle before colliding with two other cars has been arrested in Lakeland, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the driver of the stolen vehicle was fleeing from Auburndale PD when it collided with two other vehicles on Kathleen Road and George Jenkin Boulevard.

D LF and his son 9-year-old son Luke were in one of the other cars that was hit.

“I just felt a boom, boom,” D said. “He came in right behind it, after he hit that Hylander, and then he hit me. Then I saw guns drawn on the car and my thought process was this guy is probably armed. So I told Luke hit the floorboard right now. I put my whole body over him.”

He shot video from inside his car of police detaining the suspect. LF also took a photo of police pulling out a weapon from inside the car and placing it on the hood.

“He could’ve had the thought if he saw me to potentially shoot me and my life would’ve been gone at not even 10 years,” L said. “It was scary.”

“It looked like a weapon I had never seen before but that would explain why they called him a bad dude,” LF added.

Several of the people who were involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries, FHP said.

The LF said they are grateful for the officials who responded and are grateful to have survived this.

“I feel like the hand of God was on us,” D said.

Officers arrested the suspect who is now facing several felony charges.
