An Orlando woman was arrested for DUI after crashing into an electric pole and a street sign near Walgreens.
Officers responded to Walgreens, located at 901 S. 14th Street, regarding a single vehicle crash around 9:35 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Upon arrival, the officers met 19-year-old Anaysa Jolyn Germosen who stated she was the driver of the suspect vehicle. She was evaluated by EMS due to the large amount of damage to her vehicle, the report said.
During medical evaluation, Germosen was swaying and unsteady while walking and standing. She also slurred her speech and could not speak in coherent sentences. Her state led her to being transported to UF Health Hospital, located at 600 E. Dixie Ave., for further evaluation, the report said.
An officer spoke with a male witness who stated he saw Germosen drive south on U.S. Highway 27 in the right lane. She drove onto the sidewalk and struck an electric pole and a street sign. She then backed up and tried to drive away before she stopped in the road, the report said.
Once at UF Health, EMS advised that Germosen admitted to having alcoholic drinks. There were no alcohol containers found in her vehicle at the time of the crash, the report said.
The officer told Germosen that he completed the civil crash investigation and was starting a criminal investigation for DUI, but she could not answer any questions at the time. After medical evaluation, the medical staff advised that she was medically cleared and well over the legal blood alcohol limit, the report said.
Field sobriety exercises were not done because of Germosen’s behavior. She was ultimately arrested and taken to the LPD for the booking process. She agreed to provide a sample of her breath, which resulted in .196g/210L and .211g/210L, but refused to speak or answer any questions. However, she did throw a water bottle, a used tissue, adhesive medical pads and a sock at officers, the report said.
Germosen was charged with DUI (accident/property damage or minor injury) and transported to Lake County Jail. The New York native was released after posting $5,000 bond.
