BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — A suspected drunken driver was arrested after police said he ran a red light at a high speed, causing a deadly collision in Bradenton on Saturday night.
At around 10:40 p.m., investigators said 25-year-old Cesar Navarrete was speeding on Cortez Road in the westbound lanes when he ran a red light at the intersection of 43rd Street West.
As he went through the red light, Navarrete slammed into the passenger side of a Chevrolet Equinox that was turning north onto 43rd Street West.
The 36-year-old driver and 37-year-old passenger were taken to a nearby trauma center for treatment. The passenger died from her injuries on Sunday morning, while the driver has non-life-threatening injuries.
FHP said Navarrete and his passenger were also injured during the crash.
Bradenton police arrested Navarrete on an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license. During his arrest, they discovered he was impaired and conducted a DUI investigation.
