Sweetwater man tried to stab victim in neck over ‘work-related issue,’ cops say

A Sweetwater man has been arrested after police said he attempted to stab a victim over a “work-related issue” that occurred last week.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 when the suspect, identified as 36-year-old LYH, arrived at the victim’s home, according to an arrest report from the Sweetwater Police Department obtained by Local 10 News on Monday.

Authorities said the victim invited Hernandez to resolve a work-related issue regarding “nonpayment.”

The victim told police the argument escalated into a fight, which led H to pull out a large knife and attempt to stab him in the face and neck in the kitchen-living room area of the home, the report stated.

Police said the victim defended himself by blocking H’s knife attack with his right hand, which resulted in deep cuts to his ring and pinky finger.

While the victim tried to call 911, authorities said H grabbed his phone and smashed it. They said H then fled the scene on foot.

Sweetwater police said while reviewing surveillance video on Feb. 28, they spotted H outside a home on Southwest 12th Terrace.

After notifying Hernandez’s probation officer, police said he was later taken into custody during a probation check.

Jail records show he is facing one count each of attempted felony murder with a firearm or deadly weapon, armed robbery with a firearm, tampering with a witness and criminal mischief. They also show he was on probation for a robbery/ carjacking charge.

As of Friday, H was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
