A man died after he was hit by an Amtrak train on Saturday.

According to a statement by Amtrak, one of their trains was traveling from Chicago to Miami around 3:52 p.m. when it came in contact with 53-year-old Andres Pop-Tupil, who was walking across the tracks.

The incident occurred near Sydney Dover Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Dover.

“My heart goes out to the family and friends who lost their loved one,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “This tragic accident reminds us all to be overly cautious around railroad tracks.”

Railroad crossing incidents remain the second leading cause of train-related deaths in America, according to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. CSX police and investigators with Amtrak also responded to the scene.
