‘Targeted incident’: Florida off-duty corrections deputy shot, killed

An off-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Deputy was shot and killed Monday evening, deputies announced.

The PBSO was dispatched at 7:32 p.m. at the 1400 block of NW Avenue D in Belle Glade in reports of gunfire.

The victim, a 39-year-old corrections deputy was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

According to deputies, further investigation determined the shooting was targeted.

“We are distraught to say the least,” the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on Facebook.

The corrections deputy has been with the agency for three years.
