Teen hospitalized after being struck by car in downtown Tampa: police

A teen was taken to a hospital Wednesday night after Tampa police said he was struck by a vehicle.

Police said the crash happened on the Cass Street Bridge in downtown Tampa. The 17-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Authorities said the driver, who was in a black Mercedes, remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation.

As of Monday night, investigators said neither speed nor impairment appeared to be factors in the crash.

The bridge was closed in both directions as officers investigated. The road has since reopened.
