HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Police in Miami-Dade County are investigating after a teenager was shot Tuesday night.
According to Homestead police, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Northwest First Avenue and Ninth Street.
Police said officers discovered that a 16-year-old boy had been shot multiple times during a robbery related to an internet sale.
Police did not immediately confirm whether the victim was the one selling something or if he had made the online purchase.
The teen was taken by helicopter to Jackson South Trauma Center where he is listed in stable condition, officers said.
“The Homestead Police Department wants to remind the community that there are designated parking spaces in front of the Homestead Police Station specifically for conducting Internet transactions,” the police department said in a news release. “These areas are well-lit, and monitored by security cameras. Utilizing these designated safe zones can significantly reduce the risk of incidents like the one recently experienced by our community.”
Authorities did not provide any information on any possible suspects or persons of interest.
The investigation is ongoing.
