Teen struck by car waiting for school bus in Collier County

Collier County‘s sheriff wants to remind drivers about school bus safety after a teenage girl was struck by a car while waiting for the school bus.

According to a Facebook post by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the teen was struck Thursday just before 7 a.m. after a car failed to stop for a school bus that had its stop signs deployed and blinking lights on at Manor Boulevard and Radio Road.

Investigators told us that the girl was crossing the street towards the school bus coming from the median when the driver went around the slowing bus and hit her.

The teen suffered injuries deemed not life-threatening.

The sheriff’s office reminds drivers that they must stop when school buses are picking up and dropping off students.

When you stop for a bus, please stay at least 10 feet back to allow children the space to enter and exit the bus safely.

The injured teen was treated and released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

The driver was cited for reckless driving.
