Teens were home sick when fire started in Margate

Two teenage boys had missed school, as they struggled with a sinus infection, when a fire started at their home Wednesday in Margate, according to their mother.

The teens, who had missed school, rushed out of the duplex along Northwest First Street, near 60 Avenue after they saw the flames, the homeowner said.

“It was on the west side it’s a storage-like closet that is attached to the building but does not have access to the structure,” Margate Fire Marshall David Scholl said. “She did mention she’s had issues with electrical but we’re still investigating.”

The boys were not injured and the Red Cross was assisting the family since firefighters decided their home was no longer safe to live in.
