Three found dead, one injured in Lafayette County Thursday; One person in custody.

A man is in law enforcement custody after authorities found three people dead and a fourth injured on Thursday in Lafayette County.

The acts of violence happened at two different locations, according to Lafayette County Sheriff Brian Lamb.

“There is one suspect in custody and there [is] believed to be no continued threat to the community,” the department wrote in a press release.

The first crime scene authorities discovered was on Southwest Willow Street in Mayo, according to LCSO. A 911 call led deputies to a residence there at about 9:30 a.m., where they found a male with “substantial life-threatening injuries,” according to a press release.

Lamb told WCTV that the injured male was not shot, but he was injured with a weapon. The sheriff said he could not name the type of weapon used at this time.

Later in the day, deputies found two women and a man dead inside a home near Willow Street, according to LCSO. The sheriff’s office worked with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and attorneys with the Third Judicial State Attorney’s Office at that scene, according to LCSO. The cause of death for all three people is not clear at this time.

The sheriff also noted that while deputies responded to Willow Street just before 10 a.m. Thursday, a man allegedly showed up at the Lafayette County Jail with a gun. LCSO responded and detained the man, according to a press release. No one was injured, Lamb said.

“The suspect was detained due to exigent circumstances and preservation of evidence,” the written statement said.

Law enforcement declined to share the detainee’s name at this time. While this suspect is in the custody of the sheriff’s office, no one has been arrested yet, Lamb said.

“This is still an active investigation and no names are being released at this time,” the release said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected.”
