Three people were injured after working on a hydraulic line with a propane torch in Fort Myers on Thursday.
According to Southwest Waste, a propane tank blew up along Jacksonville Street, sending three people to Gulf Coast Hospital with serious injuries.
Fort Myers police and Lee County deputies have responded to the scene.
It is unclear what caused the explosion at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
A spokesperson for the company released the following statement:
“At around 11 am we had a fire at one of our sites that resulted from a welding incident. The fire was put out within a matter of seconds but in the process 3 of our employees suffered burn injuries.
We are monitoring the situation and investigating further to figure out exactly how the fire started. We appreciate the first responders who assisted and acted fast to take care of our team members.
