Florida Highway Patrol troopers are asking the public for information after a hit-and-run crash Wednesday morning in Orange County left a pedestrian injured.
The crash occurred around 6:24 a.m. on West Oak Ridge Road, west of Brookgreen Avenue, troopers said.
According to a statement from FHP, a vehicle traveling in an unknown direction struck a 56-year-old Orlando woman walking in an undetermined direction on West Oak Ridge Road.
The vehicle then left the scene as the Orlando woman — identified as Sonia Ruiz — was later seen in the roadway, prompting a passerby to call law enforcement.
The woman was hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, later stating she did not remember anything or if she was struck by a vehicle, troopers said.
“She called me from the ER that she was in the hospital, but she didn’t know what had happened to her…” said Raquel Rodriguez, Ruiz’s roommate. “I was in shock and scared, and as soon as possible, I came over to see her.”
In addition, Rodriguez is asking for donations to help pay for Rodriguez’s medical bills.
“She’s gonna need help. She’s gonna need money, you know, because she has nobody over here,” she said.
No cameras have been located that may have recorded the crash and no vehicle parts were left behind to indicate the make and model of the car that troopers seek, the statement reads.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact FHP, or Crimeline at 800-423-8477 to remain anonymous.
