Two people died after crashing into a pole while fleeing from police in Pensacola on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred around 12:23 a.m. when a Pensacola Police Officer attempted to stop the vehicle near Pace Boulevard and Garden Street.

The vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed before crashing into a pole at the intersection of Pace Boulevard and Romana Street.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to their injuries, according to police.
