Two pet tortoises rescued from structure fire in DeFuniak Springs

Two pet tortoises were rescued from a multi-level home following a structure fire in the 100 block of Oaklawn Square in the City of DeFuniak Springs.

Firemen from the city arrived on the scene to find light smoke coming from the home.

After further investigation, fire officials said it was discovered that a blanket caught fire in the garage. They said it was due to its proximity to a warming light, causing some light smoke damage throughout the home.

Firemen retrieved the pets and provided the two oxygen on the scene before turning the pets back over to the homeowners.

Fire officials determined it to be accidental and contained it to its point of origin.
