Umatilla man killed while cycling when van rear-ends him

UMATILLA, Fla. – A 28-year-old Umatilla man was killed while cycling, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened around 6 a.m. on SE 248th Terrace near County Road 42 in Umatilla.

According to a crash report, the man, described as a pedal cyclist, was struck by a vehicle from behind.

Troopers said the area is dark and has no street lighting.

The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old man, was uninjured.

An investigation is ongoing.
