HIALEAH, Fla. – Orlando Cabrera-Vichot has known his child sexual abuse victim since she was born, and the victim’s mother told an investigator at Kristi House that he was a trusted family friend, according to records released on Tuesday.
Cabrera-Vichot, 44, appeared in court on Tuesday before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Leon M. Firtel, who ordered him to stay away from the victim — who was 13 years old when the abuse happened, records show.
After two investigations, two detectives in Monroe County and Hialeah opened separate cases against Cabrera-Vichot related to the same victim in 2019.
According to a 2020 arrest warrant, Hialeah Detective Alexander Dorado learned Cabrera-Vichot started to send text messages to the teenage girl’s cellphone after her father’s birthday and sexually abused her while her father was sleeping with her stepmother.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him on Sept. 13, 2019, in Key Largo, after deputies found him in the car with the victim. Cabrera-Vichot, who used to live in Hialeah, was convicted of willful child abuse in Monroe and sentenced to five years in prison in 2022.
The Florida Department of Corrections is set to release him Thursday. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a hold on him. He has a 2020 arrest warrant in Miami-Dade.
The warrant included a $25,000 bond. In bond court, the prosecution argued this no longer applied. The defense said it did. Firtel deferred the decision to Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Carmen Cabarga.
