UPDATE: 3 teens seriously injured in Escambia County crash; Driver cited

Three teenagers were seriously injured in a crash Friday morning in Escambia County.

It happened around 9:20 a.m. on Saufley Pines Rd. near Wyndotte Road in Bellview.

FHP says a blue pickup truck crashed and overturned when it suffered a mechanical failure as it was traveling east on Saufley Pines Rd. from Shilston Rd.

“The 16-year-old driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle the leave the roadway to the right,” FHP says in a release.

The truck collided with a Florida Power and Light junction box.

The driver was not injured. However, his three passengers suffered serious injuries — a 16-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. All are from Pensacola.

The driver was cited for careless driving, no motor vehicle insurance and a learners permit violation.
