A USPS truck went up in flames Monday afternoon near Northwest 12th Street and 16th Way in Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue extinguished the fire but not before the truck and many of its contents were destroyed.
The mail carrier was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
USPS released a statement:
“Our carrier was able to retrieve two trays of letter mail and 15 packages in the front cabin area. We are investigating the incident. Our carrier says the fire came up through the floor board in the front of the vehicle. We are not certain yet how much mail and packages may have been damaged or burned in the fire. Our carrier was transported to Broward General Hospital with minor injuries but was doing well this afternoon.”
At this moment, it is unclear how the fire started.
