Video shows Brightline train slam into car whose driver went through gates

Shocking video showed a Brightline train slam into a car whose driver went through the gates in North Miami Beach on Wednesday

The crash happened in the area of Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 165th Terrace.

Video posted by Only in Dade showed traffic stopped at the crossing as the gates were down and emergency lights were flashing.

Suddenly, a dark-colored vehicle drives past the traffic, through the gates and onto the tracks as the Brightline train zooms through.

The car is hit on the rear passenger side and the impact sends it into one of the railroad crossing poles as debris litters the tracks and roadway.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed the aftermath of the crash, with the car partially on the tracks with heavy damage. The Brightline train was stopped nearby.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said one adult was being taken to a local hospital for treatment.

North Miami Beach Police officials confirmed the driver of the vehicle disregarded the Brightline traffic arms and lights. They added that the driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Brightline later posted the footage of the crash to X along with a safety message.

“For your safety and ours, never drive around lowered gates. These safety measures are in place to protect everyone, and ignoring them can lead to serious consequences,” the message read. “Stay alert, follow the law, and help keep our communities safe.”
