MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Newly-obtained surveillance video shows a man wanted for murder crashing what police said is his victim’s car as they pursued him in southwest Miami-Dade over the weekend.
Roiniel Perez, 31, bailed out afterward but was apprehended soon after.
Perez is accused of stabbing 52-year-old Oscar Rene Hernandez Augustin, partially burning his body and leaving it along a dirt road in the rural Redland area. Perez then stole his Toyota Corolla, police said. Augustin had last been seen on Tuesday; an arrest report doesn’t state how or whether the men knew each other or a motive for the killing.
A Miami-Dade police officer spotted the Corolla on Sunday along the 12000 block of South Dixie Highway in the Goulds area, an arrest report states.
Police said he tried pulling over Perez, but he took off and led officers on a pursuit that ended after he blew a red light at Southwest 137th Avenue and hit another vehicle; its passengers suffered minor injuries.
Authorities said Perez ran off from the crash scene and he was eventually taken into custody at Hidalgo’s Cafe-Restaurant, located near the intersection.
He’s facing second-degree murder and several other charges and remained held without bond as of Tuesday evening.
