Firefighters from multiple agencies teamed up to take down two structure fires early Tuesday morning in Walton County.
Walton County Fire Rescue responded to a report of a shed containing the restaurant’s smoker on fire behind H&M Hot Dog Stand in Defuniak Springs.
WCFR arrived quickly and assisted the City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department in eliminating the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings, officials said.
About 45 minutes later, WCFR crews were dispatched to a residential fire on County Highway 280 E in the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department’s district.
According to a news release, Walton County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene within eight minutes to find heavy smoke coming down from an upstairs apartment in a large barn.
Firefighters worked for around 90 minutes to eliminate the fire. WCFR said that none of the residents of the apartment or animals were injured.
“This demonstrates the power of teamwork,” Fire Chief Austin Pugh said. “Thanks to the cooperation of all agencies involved, we were able to prevent these fires from escalating.”
The fire in the barn is suspected to have been caused by an electrical issue with the apartment’s air conditioning unit, officials said.
