Wanted man chased on foot by police after allegedly choking girlfriend

A Leesburg man was arrested after running from law enforcement when they went to detain him for allegedly choking his girlfriend and two warrants.

Officers responded to reports of domestic battery at an undisclosed Lake County residence around 3:47 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Tavares Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officers met with the female victim who advised that 28-year-old D K’M S, her boyfriend of two months, had choked her while they were in bed together. The report noted that prior to the officers’ arrival, dispatch advised that S held two active Lake County arrest warrants for petit larceny (second conviction) and petit theft (second offense).

The victim granted the officers permission to enter her residence to secure S. As they went in, they identified themselves as law enforcement and demanded that any subjects inside make themselves known. Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office had arrived at that point and had taken up position behind the residence, the report said.

The TPD officers were then told by radio that a man left the residence through the back door and was running away from the deputies on rear security. The officers and deputies pursued the man on foot for about 400 yards before he was taken into custody. This man was identified as S via his driver’s license and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, the report said.

One of the officers returned to speak with the victim who further advised that she and S had been together in bed when she decided to take a photo. Her cell phone flash was on and activated when she took the picture. It woke up S, and he immediately became agitated, the report said.

The victim tried to roll over to go to sleep when S wrapped his arm around her throat and applied pressure to her windpipe. She did not black out or lose consciousness as he “choked her.” She confirmed they had been dating and living together for about two months. The report noted the officer did not see any physical marks or evidence on the victim’s person.

S was subsequently charged for domestic battery by strangulation and resist officer without violence. He was also charged for the two warrants. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $12,000.
