Watch: Deputies chase down suspect after stolen van plows into Smash Fitness in Bonita Springs


A man was arrested after being accused of stealing a van from a Holiday Inn Express and crashing into Smash Fitness in Bonita Springs.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Holiday Inn Express on Crown Lake Boulevard for reports of a carjacking.

When deputies arrived, they said the suspect, AN, 42, approached a van in the parking lot and forcefully demanded the driver to get out.

After a physical altercation, N reportedly stole the vehicle and sped away.

LCSO said they received an additional call shortly after, reporting that a car that matched the description of the stolen vehicle had crashed into Smash Fitness.

N reportedly ran away from the on Bonita Beach Road,

Deputies searched the area wth multiple K9 units before finding N hiding inside the Smash Fitness.

LCSO said N was the driver and only one in the vehicle. He was arrested and now faces charges of carjacking, DUI, property damage and leaving the scene of a crash.

The investigation remains active by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
