Firefighters from Indian River and St. Lucie counties worked together to extinguish a massive semi-truck fire on Florida’s Turnpike early Friday morning.
The St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) said crews assisted Indian River County Fire Rescue (IRCFR) at mile marker 178 on the Turnpike, which borders the Indian River County line near the Fort Drum Conservation area.
Florida 511 sent an alert of the fire just after 1 a.m.
At the scene, crews saw a semi-truck with an empty trailer engulfed in flames. Video shows the firefighters battling the fire, as plumes of smoke stretch across the highway.
SLCFD said the IRCFR joined crews and worked together to bring the vehicle fire under control.
Once the fire was successfully extinguished, the scene was handed over to the IRCFR and the Florida Highway Patrol for further investigation and cleanup. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.
