Crews worked to extinguish a fire in the Paseo community in Fort Myers on Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to 10941 Esteban Drive around 3 p.m.
Suzanne Moss, who lives next door, first thought her home could’ve been on fire.
“That’s towards my house. I’m gonna go, and I just took off and ran to my car and came down the street, and initially, I thought it was my house,” Moss said.
A Fort Myers Fire Department investigator said two people and their two dogs were inside the home when a fire started in the garage.
Thankfully, they all made it out safely.
Moss described the scene as the scariest moment of her life.
“I was screaming. I thought my neighbors were in there, and luckily, they got out with their dogs, and the house was completely engulfed, and nobody was here yet,” she said.
According to Rick Reynolds, an investigator for the Fort Myers Fire Department, the fire had already burned through the garage door and roof when crews arrived on scene.
Investigators are still working to learn how the fire started.
