A New Jersey man is accused of drivingrecklessly into oncoming traffic, weaving between cars, running red lights, and even speeding past a school bus in Vero Beach. The high-speed chase was caught on camera.
On August 16, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) said at 2:14 p.m., a deputy stated that the sport bike reached an estimated speed of 115 mph in a 45 mph zone on State Road 60, near the Vero Beach Outlets. The deputy turned on the radar and the speedster was clocked in a 120 mph.
While deputies and Vero Beach police on the ground pursued the fleeing motorist— identified asAustin Schwartz. The IRCSOhelicopter, HAWK, was able to track Schwartz from above.
Video showsSchwartz speeding through traffic, and turning down busy roads duringpeak traffic hours, putting many other motorists at risk, the sheriff’s office said.
The pursuit finally came to an end after the suspect crashed the sports bike after clipping the side of a truck at the intersection of 17th Street and Indian River Boulevard.
The 22-year-old was booked into the Indian River County Jail for reckless driving and fleeing/eluding law enforcement but was released on a $40,000 bond.
