New details were released on Tuesday regarding a shooting that injured a 21-year-old man in the parking lot of the BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse over the weekend.
The West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) said at around 6:05 p.m. on August 25, officers were called to reports of someone being shot in the leg at the parking lot of BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse at the Tanger Outlets, off Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.
A witness at the scene told police he was getting into his car when he heard two gunshots close by. The witness saw the victim bleeding from his leg and rushed to render aid to the injured young man, using towels to try and stop the bleeding, the arrest report stated.
Dispatch told officers the suspected shooter was wearing a black shirt and pants, and he was headed north in the parking lot. At the scene, officers found the suspect— identified as 28-year-old Mauricio Lopez—and discovered a firearm on him.
Police spoke to the victim at St. Mary’s Medical Center and stated he wanted to press charges against Lopez. The victim said he was shopping at the outlets when he had gotten into a heated argument with Lopez and was then shot for unknown reasons, according to the arrest report.
Lopez was arrested following an interview with police, and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
