Woman, 70, knocked unconscious after e-bike slams into her on Volusia beach

A man was arrested Thursday after deputies say he ran over a 70-year-old woman on the beach and left the scene.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said FR was on an e-bike on the beach when he crashed into the woman, “leaving her seriously injured and in and out of consciousness.”

R then ditched the bike and briskly left the scene, VSO said.

Deputies collected witness statements and clear video surveillance that helped identify him.

Deputies tracked down R at his Holly Hill address and took him into custody for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.

He was also charged with violating his probation for child abuse, VSO said.

The woman later regained consciousness and improved with treatment at the hospital, VSO said. She sustained a broken leg in the crash.

R is in jail with no bond.
