Woman standing by car after crash struck and killed in 2nd crash on I-95 in Broward

A woman who was standing next to a car after a crash was killed when she was struck by a vehicle involved in a second crash on Interstate 95 in Broward early Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said the incident happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 north of Oakland Park Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m.

One of the people involved told investigators he was speaking with a woman who was standing outside the vehicle after an initial crash when a secondary crash occurred, and the woman was hit by one of the vehicles.

The victim was transported to Broward Health North where she was pronounced dead. Her identity hasn’t been released.

Aerial images at the scene showed an overturned vehicle and emergency crews working at the scene, while long lines of vehicles could be seen around 7 a.m.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed, and traffic was being diverted onto SR 816.

The investigation is ongoing.
