A 20-year-old woman surrendered to police Tuesday, weeks after she struck a bicyclist with her vehicle in North Miami and then fled the scene, authorities said.
According to her arrest report, the incident occurred just before 3:45 a.m. Aug. 17 in the area of Northeast Sixth Avenue and 135th Street.
North Miami police said Brianne Georges, of Homestead, was driving a burgundy-colored Nissan Sentra northbound on Sixth Avenue when she struck a bicyclist who was crossing the street.
According to the report, a witness saw the Nissan brake, but the driver failed to stop after striking the victim.
Police said the witness stopped to help the victim, but the victim ultimately died from his or her injuries.
The arrest report states that surveillance video shows Georges’ vehicle pulling into an apartment complex after the crash, and she then met up with a man who lives there.
The Nissan had significant damage to the front windshield, authorities said.
Police said she surrendered to officers at the North Miami Police Department on Tuesday, accompanied by her attorney, and invoked her rights.
She faces one count of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a death.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Georges was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where her bond had yet to be set.
