A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery after throwing a plate at a housemate and pushing her to the ground during an argument.
An officer responded to a battery at an undisclosed Lake County residence around 6 p.m. Jan. 15, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers already on scene advised that the victim stated she and 23-year-old STW were in a verbal argument in the kitchen. They shared the residence since it was a group home, the report said.
During the argument, the victim cursed at W who got upset, threw a plate at her and missed. She then approached the victim and pushed her to the ground. This caused her to hit her head on the floor, leading to a welt on the back of her head, the report said.
The victim was later transported to the UF Health Leesburg Hospital, located at 600 E. Dixie Ave. One of the officers did not observe any physical injuries on the victim, but the on-scene EMTs advised there was a bump they felt on the back of the victim’s head where she stated she struck the floor, the report said.
One of the officers spoke to a witness who was in the living room watching the incident. She stated W and the victim had been verbally arguing throughout the day. They were in the kitchen when W got upset with the victim and threw a plate at her. She then approached the victim and pushed her to the ground, the report said.
W was subsequently arrested on charge of simple battery. She was transported to Lake County Jail and released on her own recognizance. She is responsible for appearing in court on Feb. 11.
