Woman’s nose severed off in machete assault by horse stable employee: PBSO

A man has been accused of attacking two people with a machete in a horse barn, leaving a woman with her nose completely severed off.

On Tuesday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) responded to a 911 call in which a woman stated that her nose was cut off by a machete.

Deputies reported arriving on the scene to find a man and woman inside a horse stable suffering from severe injuries. The two victims were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center to receive medical attention and conduct interviews with detectives.

The woman told detectives that she owns a horse stable where people board their horses. She stated she hired Abundio Jasso, 56, about a month ago as a horse groomsman and allowed him to live in an RV on her property.

The woman continued to tell detectives that she and Jasso had several arguments due to him being drunk and getting aggressive when she asked him to fulfill his responsibilities.

The report stated that on Tuesday at around 9 p.m., she noticed Jasso had not finished his night check on the stables yet. She got another tenant who lives and helps with the stables to check on Jasso with her. When Jasso opened the door to his RV, he reportedly appeared intoxicated and was shining a flashlight in both of their eyes. The woman and the man decided to complete the night check themselves to diffuse the situation.

The victims told PBSO that as they were completing the night check, Jasso came out of nowhere and took out a large machete he had hidden in his waistband.

The man with the stable owner attempted to diffuse the situation by stepping in between her and Jasso, however Jasso struck him with the machete, PBSO stated.

The man told deputies that he then saw Jasso strike the woman in the face with the machete, severing her nose completely and causing her to fall to the ground.

The report stated that the man attempted to jump in between Jasso and the woman in fear for her life when Jasso struck him with the machete, slicing his arm and ribcage.

The man was able to push Jasso back during their altercation, which allowed the two victims to escape Jasso and hide in a locked room inside the barn to call 911.

As deputies were attempting to get Jasso out of his RV, where he was hiding after the altercation, he told them that he was mad at the stable owner for calling him garbage and insulting him.

The woman suffered from severe injuries, which included a severed nose, facial trauma, and her upper jawbone was fractured. The man suffers from a metacarpal fracture in his wrist, a large laceration that needed 17 stitches to his wrist, and lacerations to his tricep and ribcage.

Jasso has been accused of two counts of first-degree attempted murder.
