Wrong-way driver killed, four injured in Charlotte County crash.

A Charlotte County crash between two pickup trucks resulted in one fatality and four injuries early Sunday morning.

A 69-year-old Punta Gorda man, driving south in the northbound lanes of State Road 776 (Veterans Boulevard) near Madaca Lane, collided head-on with another pickup truck at 1:06 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the second vehicle, including the 31-year-old driver and three passengers, sustained minor injuries, with one passenger suffering severe injuries.

All were taken to a local hospital while authorities continue working to confirm their identities.

The FHP Traffic Homicide Unit is currently investigating this crash.
