Wrong-way driver: Woman and 3-year-old killed, 3 kids injured in I-95 Jacksonville crash

A Jacksonville woman driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 95 early Sunday crashed with another car killing her and a 3-year-old girl and critically injuring three other child passengers 1 to 5 years old, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

It happened about 2:20 a.m. near Pecan Park Road and also seriously injured the 42-year-old Jacksonville man driving the other car in the right direction, according to the crash report.

The report did not say if the woman was the children’s mother but that she was going southbound for unknown reasons on the northbound lanes when the two vehicles collided. The Highway Patrol also noted no seatbelts or child restraints were used.

The tragedy also follows the recent deaths of three teens from Jacksonville and Neptune Beach involved in traffic accidents, two of whom were pedestrians.
